Bulgarian Encyclopaedia Scientific Information Centre’s Leading editions aroused the interest of visitors during the 47th edition of Sofia International Book Fair. Among titles that stood out were the “Bulgarian Calendar Holidays and Observances” encyclopedia, as well as the 12-volume “Encyclopedia “Bulgaria, et al.
In 2019, after six consecutive editions of the”Bulgarian Calendar Holidays and Observances” encyclopedia in Bulgarian, the English edition of the book was published. Bulgarian calendar holidays and customs are part of the “living human treasury” of our country. Carried over the centuries and helped to preserve us as a nation, they are still woven into the modern celebrations, sheltering our ethnic identity. This national wealth, which has sustained the soul of the Bulgarian, is a true message from antiquity that we must know and pass on to our heirs. The English edition is dedicated to the 150th anniversary of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences.
The “Changes in the names of physical-geographical objects in Bulgaria 1878-2014” encyclopedic reference contains 4439 articles, which reflect all the renaming of objects with official documents from the Liberation to the present day. The directory makes it easier to navigate through different names of rivers, peaks, localities, which have been changed over the years, and are often found with unofficial, local names. The directory is useful to geographers, local historians, municipal officials and tourists.
