National encyclopedia “Bulgaria” – 7 volumes

In honor of the 1300th anniversary of the establishment of the Bulgarian state, the Scientific Information Center “Bulgarian Encyclopedia” at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences prepared “National Encyclopedia Bulgaria”. The content was compiled by the editorial team with the active participation of dozens of scientists from BAS research institutes and higher schools. The chief editors of the encyclopedia are Academician Vladimir Georgiev (1978–1986) and Academician Angel Balevski (1986–1996). In the seven volumes of the publication, approximately 20,000 articles are arranged alphabetically with over 10,000 black-and-white and color illustrations, appendices and maps. In separate thematic texts, the centuries-old history of the Bulgarians is traced, the diversity and beauty of the Bulgarian nature, the material and spiritual culture of the people, the folk way of life and folklore, the development of Bulgarian science, literature and art are presented. The encyclopedia contains biographical articles on political, social, scientific, cultural, economic and other figures who left their mark on Bulgarian social and cultural life. The publication was published by Academic Publishing House “Prof. Marin Drinov”. The edition is out of print.
