Bulgarian encyclopedia “A-Z” is a general reference publication with a substantial volume of articles from all fields of scientific knowledge. The first edition of the Encyclopedia is the result of the work of the Scientific Information Center “Bulgarian Encyclopedia”, a large team of authors from BAS, Sofia University, etc. universities. The publication contains about 25,000 articles, 2,500 illustrations, 300 tables, maps and color appendices. A valuable asset for the reader are the tables for the sciences – astronomy, biology, mathematics, medicine, physics, chemistry, etc. In them, the reader finds general information about the development of the relevant science from its inception to the most modern achievements. In the second edition (2002), the number of articles has been increased to 30,000, illustrations to 3,000, and tables to 350. The number of color appendices has also been increased. The information in the third edition of the Bulgarian Encyclopedia “AZ” (2005) has been completely updated. It has added new data on significant events up to the middle of 2005, updated information on: population, economy and economic information; the most recent up to the date of issue socio-political changes (elections, presidents); in the articles about the cities – number of population for the foreign cities and changes in the districts for the Bulgarian ones; in the biographical articles – data on newly elected members of the BAS in this period, as well as current information about them; information from the last elections (also reflected in a table at the end of the book); the tables “Antibiotics”, “Vitamins”, “Cities”, “Skyscrapers” have been revised; in the tables “Earthquakes”, “Astronautics”, “Olympic Games” updated data have been entered. Corrections and additions were also made to the texts in the “Philosophy” and “Religion” departments, imposed by the updated reading of the relevant sciences. The publication was prepared under the main editorship of Academician, Ph.D. Evgeni Golovinski and it was realized by “Trud” Publishing House.
