The 12-volume “Great Encyclopedia Bulgaria” won the award for Book of the Year for its greatest public significance. The award was presented by the Bulgarian Book Association on December 9, 2011, at the International Book Fair in Sofia.

Bulgarian Encyclopaedia Scientific Information Centre published a new, contemporary “Encyclopedia Bulgaria” in 12 volumes. The first volume was released on November 10, 2011. In October 2009, the “The World Heritage of Bulgaria” encyclopedia was published by the Professor Marin Drinov Publishing House of BAS. The encyclopedia presents the Bulgarian sites included in UNESCO’s world cultural and natural heritage list. The publication is bilingual – in Bulgarian and in English, and richly illustrated.

The new encyclopedia is a joint publication of Bulgarian Encyclopaedia Scientific Information Centre at the BAS and Trud Publishing House. So far, there is no book with similar content in Bulgaria.
