At the beginning of 2010, the pre-press production of the multi-volume national encyclopedia “Bulgaria”, whose Leading Editor is Academician Vasil Gyuzelev, started. The edition is structured in two parts – thematic and alphabetical. The thematic part includes large overview articles that examine the natural environment (relief and surface, geology, climate, waters, soils, flora and fauna, ecology), historical development (from the creation of the Bulgarian state to the present day) and contemporary society (population, administrative-territorial division, healthcare, social policy, economy, culture, education, science, etc.). The alphabetical part consists of about 12,800 articles (7,400 standard pages), arranged in alphabetical order, devoted to historical events, natural, cultural and archaeological sites, settlements, unions and organisations, cultural institutions, as well as biographical articles about historical, public, scientific, cultural, economic and other figures who left a lasting mark on the centuries-old life of the people, Bulgarians connected with the history of other nations, and foreigners whose activities are closely connected to Bulgaria. It is illustrated with about 7,500 illustrations, tables, maps.
