Snezhana Nikolova’s talk with the pupils | Elena Blazheva shows the digital editions to the schoolchildren |
The group of 6-th and 7-th graders listened closely to the interesting information that Snezhana Nikolova, the Centre’s Director, presented about the history of encyclopedia work in Bulgaria and the world, the creative process of compiling encyclopedias and reference books, the encyclopedist profession, etc.
The pupils had the opportunity to peruse the Centre’s publications – “Concise Bulgarian Encyclopedia”, “National Encyclopedia Bulgaria”, “Agricultural Encyclopedia”, “Physical-Mathematical and Technical Encyclopedia, “Nobel Laureates”, “Traditional Bulgarian Calendar” encyclopedia, “Bulgarian A-Z Encyclopedia”, and others. They also got acquainted with the first Bulgarian encyclopedias by Luka Kaserov and Danchovi brothers and with some of the world-famous encyclopedias, such as Britannica, Larousse, Brockhaus, owned by the Centre’s library.
The young learners showed interest and curiosity while Elena Blazheva – “Bulgarian A-Z Encyclopedia” Leading Editor, demonstrated the rich possibilities of the digital “A-Z Encyclopedia” on CD and its internet edition on the educational portal Znam.bg. As the 7th graders are currently studying Newton’s Laws, they tried to find information about the physicist and were impressed by the number of articles easily found with the handy search engine. Thus, they found additional diverse information that will help them in the learning process.
The children were greatly intrigued by the CD encyclopedia’s multimedia applications – a three-dimensional globe, where they quickly discovered the island of Aruba, audio recordings with a performance by the Swedish group ABBA, video recordings that entertained them with an excerpt from “Trimata glupatsi” (“The Three Fools”) animation by Donyo Donev, the chronicle of humanity with its wealth of information. Finally, the Bulgarian Encyclopaedia Scientific Information Centre’s Director gifted the pupils copies of the “Nobel Laureates” encyclopedia, informational and marketing brochures and wished them personal and academic success and future visits.
