“Bulgaria’s World Heritage”

WORLD HERITAGE OF BULGARIA

The specialized representative edition “The World Heritage of Bulgaria” is dedicated to the values of the territory of Bulgaria, included in the UNESCO World Cultural and Natural Heritage List. The subject introduces information about the Convention for the Protection of World Cultural and Natural Heritage. Separate articles provide specific information about the history, features, research and presentation of the nine Bulgarian landmarks – the Kazanlak Tomb, the tomb near the village of Sveshtari, Nessebar – the Old Town, the Madar Horseman, the Boyan Church, the rock churches near the village of Ivanovo, the Rila Monastery, the Pirin National Park ” and the reserve “Srebarna”. Bulgarian values are considered as part of the natural environment and in the context of historical events that have an impact on their existence and preservation to this day and for future generations. The second, revised edition of the book presents additional information on the already published monuments and new articles dedicated to the Bulgarian cultural phenomena, included after 2010 in the List of UNESCO’s Intangible Cultural Heritage – fire-making; the a cappella singing from Shops, presented by the “Bistryka grandmothers”; the Chipro carpets, together with the entire complex of phenomena that make them a significant property of humanity; the kuker masquerade games and festival “Surva” in the town of Pernik. The authors are distinguished scientists – specialists from institutes of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, from the National Institute for Cultural Monuments, etc. The publication is edited by Prof. Magdalina Stancheva, PhD. All texts are richly illustrated. At the end of the book there are indexes and chronological tables for the convenience of the readers. The editions are designed in parallel in Bulgarian and English and are intended for specialists and a wide range of readers. They were implemented by the team of the Scientific Information Center “Bulgarian Encyclopedia” at the BAS in partnership with the academic publishing house “Prof. Marin Drinov”.
