Premiere of Encyclopedia “Bulgaria”

Encyclopedia “Bulgaria” is the first modern one-volume encyclopedia dedicated to Bulgaria. After the editions in 7 and later in 12 volumes of the encyclopedia “Bulgaria”, today the Bulgarian book market is in dire need of a modern and modern book about Bulgaria, based on scientific facts and reliable information, collected in one volume. This became clear during the official presentation of the new book in the “Prof. Marin Drinov” of the BAS. The event hosted by Daniel Nenchev was attended by Prof. Evdokia Pasheva, Vice-President of the BAS, Prof. Nina Atanasova, Scientific Secretary of the BAS, Department “Biomedicine and Quality of Life”, Associate Professor Elka Traikova, Scientific Secretary of the BAS, Department “Cultural -historical heritage and national identity and Prof. Mitko Dimitrov, Institute for Economic Research at BAS. Unlike the previous editions of the Scientific Information Center “Bulgarian Encyclopedia”, in the new one-volume Encyclopedia “Bulgaria” the information is grouped into thematic overviews, which cover all areas of life in Bulgaria in their fullness and completeness – nature, history, economy, science and culture , the participants in the premiere also announced.
“Encyclopedia Bulgaria” is a luxury publication with high polygraphic quality. Its volume is 872 pages and includes over 2000 photographs, diagrams, tables and diagrams. The layout and design of the cover are the work of Todor Manolov.
In the new book, the section on the political system of our country has been expanded and supplemented with the names and photographs of all the heads of state, up to the current president, Rumen Radev. A list of all Prime Ministers and Speakers of the National Assembly up to our time is also included. Data from the latest population census has also been added. Tables, schemes and diagrams illustrate the growth up to 1985. The natural increase of the population until 2018 and the permanent tendency for the death rate in our country to exceed the birth rate have been tracked.

Obzor “Nauka” abounds with reasons for national pride and optimism, emphasized the participants. Among the notable achievements of Bulgarian scientists and inventors mentioned there is the legendary ELKA calculator. The “Literature” review is illustrated with excerpts from emblematic works of the Bulgarian classics, the “Museums” review traces the development of the idea of preserving our cultural and historical heritage from the end of the 19th century until today, and in “Architecture” – from the megalithic structures to the modern buildings and facilities, the work of talented Bulgarian architects.

“The work on updating and supplementing the information from our previous editions took nearly 12 months for the Bulgarian Encyclopedia team, but the results showed that this work was worth it. Today we can say hello to a truly modern edition, providing scientifically verified and proven information, which will become a table book for every Bulgarian family”, commented Viktoria Lazova, director of the “Bulgarian Encyclopedia” NC and lead editor of the edition.
