Dear ladies and gentlemen,
I am extremely pleased to have the opportunity to congratulate the Scientific Information Center “Bulgarian Encyclopedia” on its 50th anniversary.
For several years, our company “Sirma” and “Bulgarian Encyclopedia” have been working closely together on the creation of the computer product “Bulgarian Encyclopedia A-Z” and the educational portal ZNAM.bg. During years of joint work, I had the honor to get to know the members of the “Bulgarian Encyclopedia” team, to feel their enthusiasm and dedication to work, their truly renaissance urge to serve society.
The collection, storage and processing of the information that “Bulgarian Encyclopedia” performs is truly a vitally necessary task, because we are all witnesses of the enormous changes that have occurred in the last decades in the world. Information has become the most valuable raw material, and qualified and educated people into national wealth.
The time in which we live in Bulgaria is sometimes reminiscent of a bad western, and that is exactly why the work that the information center team does is a bright ray in our daily lives and a reminder that there are also decent people living in this country who do their work competently and conscientiously.
When we started work on electronic products, I was personally filled with apprehensions because I had seen the apathy and irresponsibility with which employees in some departments, government organizations and institutions treat their work. On the other hand, in a private software company, the work is very dynamic, the deadlines are always very short, the efforts that must be made are sometimes close to the limit of possibilities. That is why I was greatly surprised and impressed by the enthusiasm and desire for work that our friends from “Bulgarian Encyclopedia” showed us.
The result of our joint efforts and work, as you know, was the first electronic Bulgarian encyclopedia, a product that was received with great enthusiasm in our society and a product that placed Bulgaria among the most advanced countries in this field.
I would like to wish many new successes to our friends, may they continue to please us and the whole society with the fruits of their labor.
